Forest Schools Birmingham was founded in 2004 in response to the increasing demand from schools for quality Outdoor Learning, Forest Schools provision, Teacher Training/INSET  and innovative Schools Grounds Design in an urban environment.

Director Afric Crossan began her career in corporate marketing then retrained as a teacher in 1997. Since then, Afric continued on to become a qualified primary school teacher then took her business expertise to co-found Forest Schools Birmingham Non-Profit in 2004.

Afric's specialism is Autism and Additional Needs, and her greatest motivation is supporting community Mental Health and the Climate Emergency Movement through supporting individuals, families and communities to improve mental and emotional health, confidence and self-esteem through employing meaningful wellbeing strategies, accessing the natural environment and learning new skills. Afric manages the strategic element of the business and is the lead Trainer.  She has been invited to Downing Street as part of the 'Big Society' Vision, has sat on strategic boards throughout the Midlands during her career, works closely with Birmingham City Council, has mentored 100s of schools in implementing Forest School and Outdoor Learning programmes. She is also a facilitator of women's retreats at Wild Women Retreats.
